Television Career

Llewelyn-Bowen came to national prominence for his appearances as a designer on the BBC do-it-yourself home improvement show "Changing Rooms," which premiered in 1996. He would later host the show for two seasons in 2003 and 2004. Before that, in 2002, Llewelyn-Bowen presented the three-part BBC special "Taste," about the history of interior design. He went on to compete on a number of game shows over the next decade, including "The Weakest Link," "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?," "Family Fortunes," "The Chase," and "Celebrity Antiques Road Trip." Especially notable was his appearance with his wife Jackie on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" in early 2006. After the pair failed to correctly answer the £1 million question, the show made the unprecedented decision of allowing them back to try again due to the misleading nature of the question. Presented with a new £1 million question, the couple chose not to risk their haul and won £500,000 for the Shooting Star Children's Hospice. Llewelyn-Bowen went on to appear with his family in the series "To the Manor Bowen" in 2007. In 2009, he presented the BBC One documentary "In Search of England's Green and Pleasant Land."

Between 2009 and 2011, Llewelyn-Bowen appeared as a designer on the ITV lifestyle game show "House Gift." During that time, he served as a judge on the ITV talent show "Popstar to Operastar" in 2010 and presented the ITV daytime show "Auction Party" between 2010 and 2011. In 2012, Llewelyn-Bowen became the head judge on the reality show "The Apartment," a position he held until the show's conclusion in 2019. Meanwhile, in 2013, he competed alongside his wife on the first season of the ITV dancing competition show "Stepping Out," coming in third place. From 2017 to 2020, Llewelyn-Bowen was a judge on the Australian home renovation game show "House Rules," and in 2019 he hosted the Australian home renovation game show "Instant Hotel." In 2021, he joined the rebooted "Changing Rooms" on Channel 4, reassuming his role as designer from the previous series. Among his appearances since then, Llewelyn-Bowen appeared on the BBC Two show "Pilgrimage" in 2022; presented the four-part Channel 4 series "Outrageous Homes with Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen" in 2024; and competed on the Netflix reality competition show "Celebrity Bear Hunt" in 2025.
