Carli Lloyd is an American former professional soccer player who has a net worth of $2 million. In college, Carli Lloyd played the position of midfielder for Rutgers University's Scarlet Knights from 2001 to 2004. During her senior career, she played for the Central Jersey Splash (1999), New Brunswick Power (2000), South Jersey Banshees (2001), New Jersey Wildcats (2004), Chicago Red Stars (2009), Sky Blue FC (2010), Atlanta Beat (2011), Western New York Flash (2013–2014), Houston Dash (2015–2017), and NJ/NY Gotham FC (2018–2021), and she was loaned to the English club Manchester City in 2017. As a member of the United States national team, Carli won gold medals at the 2008 Olympic Games and 2012 Olympic Games and the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup; a silver medal at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup; and bronze medals at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup and 2020 Olympic Games.
From 2013 to 2014, Lloyd had 18 goals in 36 caps with the Western New York Flash, and the team came in second in the championship in the inaugural season of the National Women's Soccer League. In 2008, she was named the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year, and in 2025, she was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame. After competing in the 2020 Olympic Games, Carli announced that she would retire from the U.S. national team the following year. In 2021, it was reported that she was the world's highest-paid female soccer player. In 2016, Lloyd released the memoir "When Nobody Was Watching: My Hard-fought Journey to the Top of the Soccer World."
Early Life
Carli Lloyd was born Carli Anne Lloyd on July 16, 1982, in Delran Township, New Jersey. She is the daughter of Pamela and Stephen Lloyd, and she has two siblings, Ashley and Stephen. Carli started playing soccer when she was five years old, and her mother said of that time, "At that age, it was coed, and Carli was hanging with the boys. She always loved it and showed a lot of ability from an early age, but she also has always worked hard." After attending the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup, Lloyd was inspired to play for the U.S. national team someday. She was on the soccer team at Delran High School, and as a senior, she was the team captain and scored 26 goals. The Philadelphia Inquirer named Carli the Girls' High School Player of the Year twice, and she received Parade All-American honors twice and was chosen for the Star-Ledger All-State First Team twice. She was named the South Jersey Soccer Coaches Association Midfielder of the Year and the Courier-Post Player of the Year in 2000.
From 2001 to 2004, Lloyd played for the Scarlet Knights soccer team at Rutgers University and was selected as a First-Team All-Big East every year, an honor no other Rutgers student had achieved at that time. She ended her college soccer career as Rutgers' all-time leader in goals (50) and points (117). During her time at Rutgers, Carli was named Big East Rookie of the Year, a Big East Academic All-Star, and a Big East Midfielder of the Year, and she was chosen for Soccer America's All-Freshman Team and was a finalist for the Hermann Trophy. She graduated from Rutgers with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and Sport Studies, and she was inducted into the university's Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2013.

Career
As a teenager, Lloyd played for the W-League teams Central Jersey Splash (1999), New Brunswick Power (2000), and South Jersey Banshees (2001). In 2004, she played for the New Jersey Wildcats. In 2009, Carli began playing for the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league team the Chicago Red Stars, and she started in 14 games and scored two goals during the league's first season. After the season ended, she became a free agent, and she signed with the 2009 league champions Sky Blue FC. She broke her ankle during a match in April 2010 and had to sit out most of the season. In 2011, Lloyd played for the expansion team Atlanta Beat and scored two goals during ten appearances. The team finished in last place that season, and Carli joined the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) team the Western New York Flash in early 2013. She was named NWSL Player of the Week after scoring a hat trick during the team's June 28th match against the Washington Spirit. Lloyd scored ten goals that season, and the team made it to the playoffs. They were defeated by Portland Thorns FC during the final.
Carli was traded to the Houston Dash in October 2014, and in 2017, she was loaned to the English football club Manchester City. During her time with Manchester City, the club came in second in the WSL Spring Series, and they won the 2016–17 FA Women's Cup. In early 2018, Lloyd was traded to Sky Blue FC (which was renamed NJ/NY Gotham FC in 2021), and she scored four goals that year. She was selected as a 2018 NWSL Second XI, and she stayed on the team until 2021. Carli also played for the U.S. national team. She competed in the Olympics in 2008, 2012, and 2020, earning two gold medals and a bronze medal. Personal Life
Carli married golfer Brian Hollins on November 4, 2016, in Mexico. The couple lives in Medford, New Jersey, and they welcomed a daughter, Harper, on October 18, 2024. During her pregnancy, Lloyd wrote an essay for Women's Health about her struggles getting pregnant. After trying to get pregnant naturally, Carli underwent three rounds of in vitro fertilization. She said of the process, "It was a waiting game that we literally had no control over. And it's hard. I felt all the emotions during my career—stress, worry, fear, anxiety—but I'd never felt all the emotions that IVF brought on. I felt completely out of control. It's an indescribable roller coaster unless you go through it."
Honors
During her soccer career, Lloyd was named the Algarve Cup Most Valuable Player (2007), U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year (2008), CONCACAF Women's Player of the Year (2015), IFFHS World's Best Woman Playmaker (2015), FIFA World Player of the Year (2015), and The Best FIFA Women's Player (2016) as well as the IFFHS CONCACAF Best Woman Player of the Decade 2011–2020. In 2015, she won the FIFA Women's World Cup Golden Ball and Silver Boot and was chosen for the All-Star Team and Dream Team. That year Carli also received the CONCACAF Goal of the Year award and the Women's Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year Team Sport Award. She was selected for the IFFHS World's Woman Team of the Decade and IFFHS CONCACAF Woman Team of the Decade for 2011–2020. Lloyd was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2017 and the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2025.
