Taxi Cab Incident
In the spring of 2006, Adams had a dispute with her New York City taxi driver about where to drop her off. During the argument, the driver called the police and falsely accused Adams of threatening to shoot him with a gun. The driver's license was consequently revoked, and he was issued a fine. However, Adams claimed that when the police arrived they slammed her to the ground, injuring her back and neck. She filed a lawsuit against the NYPD in 2006 and was awarded $1.2 million by a jury in 2012. The amount was later reduced to $373,000.
Personal Life
Adams's first marriage was to an Italian investment banker; they eventually divorced. In early 2003, in a cover story for She magazine, Adams became the first Playboy Playmate to come out as lesbian. However, at the end of the decade, she got engaged to a man and said she was straight. In 2010, Adams married chiropractor Charles V. Nicholai and announced that she was stepping away from the public spotlight. The couple had a son named Vincent before separating in 2017.
Murder and Suicide
On May 17, 2018, amid a custody battle with her husband, Adams checked into a penthouse on the 25th floor of the Gotham Hotel in Manhattan with her seven-year-old son, Vincent. Just before checking in, Adams had told the New York Post that her husband and his lawyer were preventing her from going on vacation with her son. On the morning of May 18, 2018, Adams and her son were found dead on a second-floor balcony of the Gotham Hotel. The NYPD ruled it a murder-suicide, with Adams having pushed her son off their 25th-floor balcony before taking her own life by jumping.
