Newsnight exclusive: RAF overpaid by billions for its Airtanker refueling aircraft

The BBC has unearthed evidence which suggests that the MoD has overpaid by nearly £10bn for its new refueling aircraft. Contracts seen by Newsnight show that the RAF's new air to air refuelling craft - known as Voyager (led by Airbus and Rolls Royce) - could have been purchased for as little around £50m each instead of the agreed leasing cost of £750m over the next 23 years. The former head of the Army Lord Dannatt described the revelation as 'shocking' and the Defence Sectretary Philip Hammond has promised to personally re examine the deal
