TV9 - Film Producer Munirathna Questioned In "Chakravyuha" About "Katari Veera Surasundarangi" - 1/3..! Godfather is an Indian Kannada-language film directed by cinematographer turned director Sethu Sriram starring Superstar Upendra and Soundarya Jayamala in the lead roles. Sadha and Catherine Teresa also play the prominent roles which were originally offered to Simran and Bhumika Chawla . The film is one of the most anticipated films of 2012. Internationally acclaimed composer, A. R. Rahman has been roped in to compose the music for the film. The film is the Kannada version of the 2006 Tamil blockbuster Varalaru that starred Ajith Kumar, Asin Thottumkal and Kanika Subramaniam in the lead roles. The film went on floors on 28 April 2011 in Bangalore at Abbaiah Studios. Producer K. Manju first roped in Upendra and then went on to cast Simran and the daughter of yesteryear actress Jayamala, Soundarya. But Simran opted out due to her maternal call and Sadha replaced her for the role. Another budding actress, Catherine Tresa is also roped in to reprise the role originally played by Kanika Subramaniam in the Tamil version.[2]It was P. C. Sreeram who insisted his long time friend A. R. Rahman to compose the score for the movie; who reportedly slashed down his salary by more than 50 percent, considering the budget limitations of the Kannada industry.[3][4] Initial reports wrongly reported that cinematographer P. C. Sriram would be the director of the film. Sethu Sriram, who had apprenticed under the veteran cinematographer and independently shot films like Samurai and Priyasakhi, directed the film. Katari Veera Surasundarangi (Kannada: ಕಟರಿವೀರ ಸುರಸುಂದರಾಂಗಿ) is an upcoming Kannada Romantic fantasy film starring Super Star Upendra and Ramya in the lead roles. Veteran actor Ambarish also plays a vital role. The film is directed by Suresh Krishna and produced by Munirathna . It is slated for 26 April 2012 release. The film is claimed to be the first full length 3D film in Kannada cinema. The film which was earlier rumoured to be a remake of Malayalam hit film Udayananu Tharam and also has shades of Rajkumar starrer Katari Veera which was released back in 1966. However Upendra has denied all the rumours and says that his version is completely fresh and has no links with the above mentioned films whatsoever.[2] Producer Munirathna, who was once the main reason behind the banning of actress Nikita Thukral had approached her to do an item number dance for this film. Nikita has turned down the offer and the producer is looking out for a new dancer. [4] Upendra had titled this film as Yamendra Upendra and Sadhu Kokila had to direct this film. However due to several reasons, Suresh Krishna was roped in to direct it finally.
