Olivia de Havilland

A true Hollywood legend, Olivia de Havilland is the last surviving principle cast member of Gone With The Wind. Her greatest moment in acting was winning an Oscar for Best Actress in To Each His Own (1946) and The Heiress (1949). She was nominated for three more Oscars including Gone With The Wind, Hold Back the Dawn and The Snake Pit. She even received a Nastro d'Argento (Italian equivalent of an Academy Award, Golden Globe or BAFTA). Her ten films with Errol Flynn were among her most celebrated movies including Captain Blood, The Charge of the Light Brigade, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Dodge City, The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, and They Died With Their Boots On. Her sister was Joan Fontaine and their sibling rivalry has been a long part of Hollywood's colorful history. Olivia and Errol also had major crushes on each other although they barely mentioned it to each other. She has had a long career, received a National Medal of Honor in 2008, and currently lives in Paris. I subtitled this video "Melanie's Law" after Olivia's famous role Melanie Hamilton, a cousin of Scarlett O'Hara and Olivia's contribution to Hollywood. In the 1940s, she successfully challenged the Hollywood studio system in a legal battle for binding actors in restrictive contracts with the studios which limited their creativity and selectivity in choosing roles. The law become known as the de Havilland Law (California Labor Code Section 2855) and changed the studio system thereafter. The ten films here are The Strawberry Blonde (with Rita Hayworth and James Cagney), Anthony Adverse (with Fredric March), Captain Blood, The Charge of the Light Brigade, The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (with Bette Davis), Dodge City, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Princess O'Rourke, To Each His Own, and of course, Gone With The Wind. The music is a bit piece (a few seconds) from Kerim by Ennio Morricone (from Secret of the Sahara), "From the Heart" by X-Ray Dog and "Shadow of Beauty" by Two Steps From Hell. X-Ray Dog and Two Steps From Hell are recording studios that specifically make soundtrack for popular movies and trailers including Harry Potter, Avatar, Lord of the Rings, etc. I thank my very good friend Claudia for her clips of Dodge City. Olivia is gorgeous there and this video would be only half of what it is otherwise.
