John McCain net worth: John McCain is the senior United States Senator from Arizona who has a net worth of $10.5 million. A war veteran, naval captain, prisoner of war, victim of torture, McCain has been a US senator from Arizona since 1987, as well as the Republican nominee for president in 2008. After he graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1958, he had a 22-year military career as a pilot and officer in the Navy. Five years of his military time, from 1967 to 1973, McCain had spent as a North Vietnamese prisoner after he was shot down over Hanoi during the Vietnam War. He left the Navy in 1981, while a year later he entered into politics as he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982. Next, McCain was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986, winning re-election easily four times, most recently in 2010. It was in 2000, when he ran for the Republican presidential nomination, but suffered a defeat by George W. Bush. After Bush's re-election in 2004, McCain ran again for the Republican nomination in 2008, but this time he won the nomination at the GOP convention. He designated Sarah Palin as his running mate, but they lost to Democratic candidates Barack Obama and Joe Biden. In addition to the above, McCain told the story of his family's military history (both his father and grandfather being four-star admirals) in his 1999 book Faith of My Fathers.
