He is best known for being the lead guitarist for the band the Eagles starting in 2001. Smith is considered a touring member of the band although he was featured on their 2007 album Long Road Out of Eden and plays guitars and mandolin and provides backing vocals. That album reached #1 in the US, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, and the UK.
He also co-wrote many songs on the album. Smith joined the Eagles after Don Felder was fired.
