Early Life

Redfoo, born Stefan Kendal Gordy, was born in Los Angeles, California on September 3, 1975. His parents are Berry Gordy Jr., the founder of the Motown record label, and Nancy Leiviska, a writer and producer. He attended junior high school in Los Angeles with future stars like will.i.am and GoonRock. He then attended Palisades Charter High School in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, graduating in 1993. By that time, he was already working as a producer for friends and local musicians.

Career

In 1994, Redfoo experienced his first commercial success when he scored a production credit for the song "Back in the Day" by Los Angeles Rapper Ahmed. He also co-produced several other tracks on Ahmed's self-titled debut album. A couple of years later, in 1996, he signed with Bubonic Records and began collaborating on an album with the rapper Dre' Kroon. They released the album, "Balance Beam," in 1997. In 1999, he worked with The Black Eyed Peas on their album, "Behind the Front"and also worked with the artist Defari in a producer capacity.

Over the next years, Redfoo continued working and formed the electro-pop band LMFAO with his nephew, Sky Blu, in 2006. They started building a local fan base and recorded a few demos. His friend, will.i.am, introduced the duo to the head of Interscope, Jimmy Iovine. He signed them to Interscope/will.i.am Music. The duo impressed the label as their demo tapes sounded so good and their sound was so polished that very little needed to be done to get the duo ready for recording.

In 2009, LMFAO released their debut album, "Party Rock." The album charted at number 33 on the Billboard 200 album charts and snagged the second spot on the Billboard Dance Chart. Some of that success was due to the singles that the band had released leading up to the album release. In December of 2008, the duo had released "I'm in Miami Bitch."

The next year, LMFAO was featured on David Guetta's track, "Getting' Over You," which became an international hit. They then began working on their second album, "Sorry for Party Rocking." The accompanying music video also became very popular and showcased the Melbourne Shuffle dance style. They released their second single, "Champagne Showers," in May of 2011. It features English singer-songwriter Natalia Kills and was not quite as popular. In October of that year, they released their third single, "Sexy and I Know It." The track became another massive hit, reaching number one on the iTunes charts worldwide and also on the Australian and Canadian Hot 100.

The duo also embarked on their world tour, the Sorry for Party Rocking Tour. They also performed as the opening act for the American singer Kesha on her Get Sleazy Tour. In early 2012, they appeared with Madonna at the Super Bowl XLVI and performed her song "Music" which contained a mash-up with "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy and I Know It."
