Matt Groening is an American animator and creator of The Simpsons whose net worth is $500 million.
When Groening first moved to LA from Portland he worked a series crappy day jobs. He poured all of his frustration from these jobs into a self-published animated book called "Life in Hell". The comic strip grew a following and even managed to catch the eye of Hollywood heavy weight James L Brooks. Brooks invited Groening to bring his "Life in Hell" characters to the small screen for "Tracey Ullman Show", fearing that he would have to give up ownership to the comic he instead thought of another idea in the lobby of Brooks' office. That idea was "The Simpsons". The idea was simple: The life of the Simpson family, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie as we watch the trials and tribulation of their family dysfunction. Groening named the characters after members of his own family. Brooks loved the idea and the shorts became a hit on the Tracey Ullman Show.
The Simpsons was a massive hit and went on to became it's own prime time television show that has aired over 490 episodes in 23 seasons. Groening also created the show Futurama which aired 101 episodes over 6 seasons.
