He struggles with dyslexia, but that has not discouraged him from continuing to write. Along with being an author, Goodkind is also a painter and a woodworker. He used to build cabinets and violins, but during the construction of his home in Maine in 1993 he took to writing and started his first novel, which came to be Wizard's First Rule. He is primarily a fantasy writer and has over seventeen publications. The Sword of Truth television series was produced by Sam Raimi and ended in 2010.
