Molly Meldrum was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in January 1943. Molly was the talent coordinator, music news presenter, and on-air interview for the music program Countdown from 1974 to 1987. He is known for his trademark look of a Stetson hat. Meldrum had a life-threatening fall from a ladder in 2011 and had to be placed under intensive care in a critical condition for head and spinal injuries. He first wrote for the weekly teen newspaper Go-Set from 1966 to 1974. He has produced top 10 hits for Russell Morris, Colleen Hewett, Ronnie Burns, Supernaut, and The Ferrets. He has hosted Live Aid and Oz for Africa and was made a Member of the Order of Australia. He was given an Australian Recording Industry Association Award for Special Achievement in 1993.
