Scott attended Rutgers University and studied acting at The Actors Studio. From 1980 to 1986 Patterson was a professional minor league baseball pitcher. He was drafted #12 by the Atlanta Braves in the 1980 amateur entry draft. He formed the Arclight Theatre Company in Soho, New York in 1988. His first screen role came in the 1992 video Intent to Kill. In 1994 he played Mike McGrevey in the movie Little Big League. One of Patterson's best known roles came from 2000 to 2007 as Luke Danes on the TV series Gilmore Girls. He also starred in the series The Event as Michael Buchanan from 2010 to 2011 and Aliens in America as Gary Tolchuck from 2007 to 2008. He played Agent Peter Strahm in Saw IV, Saw V, and Saw VI. Scott has also appeared in episodes of Seinfeld, Silk Stalkings, Arli$$, Will & Grace, and CSI: Miami. Patterson is producing the film Outlaw which is scheduled to be released in late 2014. Scott was previously married to Vera Davich.
