He began his professional on-camera career at age 6, appearing in commercials and in various roles on television. He began adding film roles to his resume in the early 50s. As a child, he had roles in such projects as "The Ruggles", "The Range Rider", "Father Knows Best", "Hans Christian Anderson", and "Apache".
He became one of the original Mousketeers on "The Mickey Mouse Club" in 1955. After the show ended, he went on to graduate from the University of California – Los Angeles, where he earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Theatre Arts. He then completed a Ph.D. in English Literature. From there, he returned to performance full-time, and has continued to work steadily as an actor, director, choreographer, and writer for theater, television, and film, to this day.
