Beyond film, she sang and played guitar in the all-female band the Skirts in the early 1980s.

Early Life and Education

Linnea Quigley was born Barbara Linnea Quigley on May 27, 1958 in Davenport, Iowa as the only child of Dorothy and William. She was educated at Garfield Elementary, Sudlow Middle School, and Bettendorf High School.

Career Beginnings

After graduating from high school in 1976, Quigley moved to Los Angeles with her parents. There, she began working at Jack LaLanne's health spa, where she met models who had found work as extras in films. In addition to acting, Quigley was encouraged to take guitar lessons. She did some work as an extra and also appeared in some television commercials before breaking into film.

Film Career

Quigley had her first major acting role in Harry Hurwitz's 1978 sex comedy "Fairy Tales," in which she played Sleeping Beauty. Later in the year, she was in Hurwitz's erotic mockumentary "Auditions." In the 1980s, Quigley began appearing in horror films, the genre for which she would become best known. Early in the decade, she had supporting roles in "Graduation Day" and "Don't Go Near the Park." In 1984, Quigley appeared in the teen vigilante exploitation film "Savage Streets" and the Christmas slasher "Silent Night, Deadly Night." Her status as a scream queen was cemented in 1985 with her role as Trash in the comedy horror film "The Return of the Living Dead." Quigley went on to appear in many more horror films over the remainder of the decade, including David DeCoteau's "Creepozoids," "Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama," and "Nightmare Sisters"; Kevin S. Tenney's "Night of the Demons" and "Witchtrap"; "Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers"; and "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master." She also acted in some films outside the horror genre, such as the adventure film "Treasure of the Moon Goddess" and the comedy "Vice Academy." Quigley reprised her role from the latter in the 1990 sequel "Vice Academy 2."

In 1991, Quigley riffed on her scream queen reputation by playing a character literally called Scream Queen in the science-fiction superhero film "The Guyver." The following year, she was a nurse in John Landis's erotic comedy horror film "Innocent Blood." Quigley's subsequent credits included "Blood Church," "Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings," "Jack-O," and "Fatal Frames." Toward the end of the decade, she was in such films as "Boogie Boy," "Death Mask," and "Kolobos." Quigley remained prolific as an actress going into the 21st century. In the '00s, her credits included "Blind Target," "The Monster Man," "Zombiegeddon," "Frost," "The Naked Monster," "Each Time I Kill," and "It Came from Trafalgar." Quigley also had a cameo in the 2009 remake of "Night of the Demons," as she had starred in the original. In the early 2010s, she was in such films as "Bloodstruck," "Stripperland," "Collapse," "1313 Cougar Cult," and "Caesar and Otto's Deadly Xmas." Later in the decade, Quigley acted in "Terror Toons 3" and "Terror Toons 4," "The Barn," "Bonehill Road," and "The Best Laid Plans," among other films. She became less active in films starting around 2016, but went on to appear in the horror comedy "The Last Thanksgiving" in 2020 and "The Barn Part 2" in 2022.

Music Career

After playing guitar in the all-female band Mad Whistle, Quigley formed her own all-female band, the Skirts. Her friend, fellow actress Haydee Pomar, played the bass guitar. Some of the group's music was later featured in Quigley's movies.

Books

In 1991, Quigley published the book "The Linnea Quigley Bio & Chainsaw Book," about her career in B-movies. She published another, "I'm Screaming as Fast as I Can," in 1995.

Personal Life

While filming "Night of the Demons" in the late 1980s, Quigley began dating special effects artist Steve Johnson. He later proposed to Quigley on the set of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master." The couple married in early 1990 and divorced in 1992.

A longtime vegan, Quigley does animal rights activism and works with the nonprofit PETA.
