Born Gustaf Archibald Siegwart Douglas on March 3, 1938 in Stockholm, Sweden, he took his Master's degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1964. Upon his graduation, Gustaf Douglas started his career as a consultant at Bohlin & Stromberg from 1964 to 1968. Next, he was the general manager of TV2 between 1968 and 1971. He got back as the CEO of Bohlin & Stromberg from 1971 to 1972, and was the chairman of the Shareholder's Association between 1971 and 1973.

Then he became CEO of such newspapers as Dagens Nyheter and Expressen from 1973 to 1980. Some four years later, Douglas set up his investment company AB Latour. The company, which is the main source of his wealth, now holds the reins of the largest publicly traded security firm Securitas AB, as well as the leading producer of locks in the world, Assa Abloy, and the Swedish maker of light fixtures, Fagerhult AB. In addition to establishing and leading his own business, Douglas was once on the board of Sweden's Moderate Party. Now, he is mainly interested in education policies and is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. With current residence in Stockholm, Sweden, he has two children with his wife Elisabeth (nee von Essen) who is also of noble descent.
