A graduate of Trinity College who holds an MBA from Harvard University, Gottesman started his investment advisory company First Manhattan Co. in 1964. The company specializes in providing investment managing services to partnership, trusts, institutional clients, individuals and retirement accounts.
Being a longtime friend of Warren Buffett, Gottesman became an early investor in Berkshire Hathaway, and later in 2003, he joined its Board of Directors. Currently, he owns Berkshire Hathaway's shares worth $3 billion. Known for his philanthropic work, in 2008, Gottesman and his wife, Ruth, gave $25 million to the Yeshiva University medical school. Moreover, he serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of trustees of American Museum of National History in New York. David Gottesman died on September 28, 2022 at the age of 96.
