She started to play volleyball at eight years old before changing to long jump at 13. Klishina has competed for the club CSKA Moscow and won her first event in 2007 at the World Youth Championships. She went on to win events at the European Youth Olympics in 2007, the European Junior Championships in 2009, the European Indoor Championships and European U23 Championships in 2011, and the European Indoor Championships and Universiade in 2013. Klishina was granted special permission to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics after the IAAF suspended the Russian national federation. The decision was reversed but she appealed and it was overturned which allowed her to compete.
