Big Girls Don't Cry...They Get Even - originally titled Stepkids in early promotional trailers - is a 1992 American comedy film directed by Joan Micklin Silver. The story of a young girl Laura Chartoff (Hillary Wolf) who runs away after a blowout with her family. She goes to live in a cabin with her stepbrother, Josh (Dan Futterman) who also ran away because of the stubbornness & belligerence of his father Keith (David Strathairn). When her family comes to claim her Laura runs away on her own thinking Josh ratted her out. She meets a host of colorful characters along the way including teen robbers and an all too happy family. Her large dysfunctional family and two local police officers search for her. After realizing she can't escape her family she returns home to embrace her extended family. Big Girls Don't Cry...They Get Even was a massive disappointment grossing a scant $271,327 and the film disappeared from theaters four weeks in 1991 before its release in 1992
