Weekend Box Office Review for September 4th – September 6th

By on September 8, 2015 in ArticlesEntertainment

This weekend the small budget film War Room was able to knock Straight Outta Compton out of the #1 spot. War Room did so with a relatively unknown cast and only brought in $9.3 million. Last weekend, Compton made $13 million at #1, but it is almost unheard of for a movie to top the box office making less than $10 million. Newcomer A Walk in the Woods debuted at #3 with some big names for the older set and a low budget. The Transporter Refueled was a bomb with their nobody cast which no longer includes Jason Statham.

This was the worst Labor Day weekend at the box office in 15 years. The only new movie for kids this weekend was the Mexican made cartoon Un Gallo con Muchos Huevos which did alright, but this made room for Inside Out to actually climb back into the Top 10 after several weeks out of it because kids wanted something to see. Last weekend there were 20 movies that made over $1 million, but this weekend topped that with 21. Next weekend there are no blockbusters on the horizon but The Visit by M. Night Shyamalan might be able to top the charts. Here is a breakdown of the top movie money makers for this past weekend…
