How much did Mel Gibson‘s ex-wife get in the divorce settlement? Gibson is one of the richest and most controversial actors in Hollywood. Well, he used to be one of the richest, anyway.
Gibson married his first wife, Robyn Moore (formerly Robyn Gibson), in 1980. They had seven children together, but in 2006 began a period of trial separation. That was not a good year for the actor, who made a series of infamous sexist and anti-Semitic remarks to a police officer during a DUI arrest. In April of 2009, the couple’s differences became “irreconcilable” and they filed for divorce.
By California state law, the estate is split 50/50, meaning Moore became entitled to half the actor’s net worth. Reports put Mel Gibson’s net worth at a whopping $850 million! Many of his movies are blockbuster hits, like Lethal Weapon and Braveheart. They earn him massive royalty checks every year. Passion of the Christ, which Gibson self-financed, grossed over $600 million internationally. In addition, Gibson owned a church in Malibu and his own private island in Fiji.
So it’s estimated that Gibson stands to loose about $425 million, easily one of the biggest divorce settlements in Hollywood history!
In July 2010 Mel’s ex girlfriend and current baby-mama released several taped phone conversations in which Mel was verbally abusive and erratic. In one of those conversations Gibson alluded to the fact that he was having serious financial problems. At one point Mel screams “I don’t have any f*cking money! I have to support you and everybody else! I have to sell paintings. I have to sell my box at the Lakers game!” If Mel Gibson was in fact broke it would be almost as shocking as the things he screamed on the recorded phone calls.
