The Celebrity Net Worth staff are stoked to share the announcement that a new season and movie of our favorite show Arrested Development is officially happening. Arrested stars Jason Bateman and Will Arnett as well as creator Mitchell Hurwitz, confirmed the rumors this weekend at the New Yorker Festival and subsequently over twitter.

After a 5 year wait, the Arrested Development movie is official, along with a new season
The long-awaited announcement was made during the "Bluth Family Reunion" at The New Yorker Festival which marked the first time the full original cast had appeared together since Arrested Development ended in 2006 due to a low ratings. The Emmy-winning series has always maintained a strong cult following, with many of the cast members finding success in other roles and movies. Arguably the two biggest stars have beenMichael Cera and Jason Bateman who have both starred in a several big budget movies. Will Arnett has also had a fairly successful career in television where he is currently starring in the new NBC show "UP All Night", opposite Christina Applegate.

During the Bluth Family Reunion, the cast dropped some info on the upcoming season and movie. The be 9-10 episodes and movie will be filmed simultaneously in early summer 2012 to be broadcast later in the year. Each episode will feature a character showing "where are they now" as a lead into the movie. Co-creator and writer Mitchell Hurwitz said that when writing the script for the movie it required too much back story for each character to lead into them all getting back together, so the idea for a short season leading up to the movie was born.

While still co-produced by Fox TV and executive producer Ron Howard's Imagine TV, the show is looking to be broadcast on video-on-demand service Netflix or possibly Showtime instead of Fox. I hope this means they can go all out with uncensored jokes since it won't be appearing on a regular network channel. The movie is set to hit theaters in summer of 2013.
