Patrick Dempsey Asks $14.5 Million For Malibu Home

It's a season of change for Patrick Dempsey. The popular"McDreamy" actor and race car driver just put his beautiful Malibu home on the market for $14.5 million. This comes just a few months after he bought a 2,288-square-foot "micro compound" near Venice Beach, announced a divorce after 15 years of marriage, and — shocking audiences everywhere — his character Derek on "Grey's Anatomy" passed away.

Whew! That's a lot going on for one person. But we're really blown away by this 5,547-square-foot house, the crown jewel of a gated 3.2-acre estate with amazing ocean views. Known as "Tin House" the corrugated metal house was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. The house is flush with light thanks to custom designed windowpane walls and doors.

Spread over two stories are three bedrooms, 3.5 baths, high ceilings hovering over wood floors throughout the home, and an open floor plan that was clearly designed for entertaining. The great room features a fireplace; the kitchen is fitted out with everything that the epicurious needs to throw a party, including a six-burner professional grade stove; the dining area is flanked by a bar and the back of the house — is a sight to behold.

There are several areas where family and guests can sit, chat, swim or just settle in for a few hours under the sun or shade. There is the large swimming pool, a hot soaking pool, a climbing wall, and a couple of outdoor parlors. A fully equipped outdoor kitchen has a bar, oven, pantry and a table shaded by a bamboo-covered canopy. The backyard also manages to have drought-resistant landscaping with enough verdant coverage to ensure privacy, plus a couple of tranquil fountain features.

Let's talk about the stationary trailer out back. The retro metal trailer is fitted out with its own porch, kitchen and seating area — a really unusual way for guests to escape the high-noon heat.

Frank Gehry designed "Tin House" for famous artist Ron Davis. Most design and real estate experts see it as one of Malibu's significant trophy properties. With a pedigree like that, it's no wonder this listing is causing a buzz.
