Ahhh… "Awards Season". That time of the year when new stars are born, old stars are recognized, and hopefully, the "underdog" comes out on top with a statuette of some sort in hand. Brad Pitt, who has enjoyed a very successful career, has also enjoyed the stigma that comes with having a ridiculously pretty face – the idea that you cannot be that attractive and be a good actor. So, after nearly two decades of making hit movies, 2011 proved to be his breakout year with regards to receiving respect for his acting craft as opposed to his ability to bring in box office dollars. The shift towards a more serious career began in 2009, with "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", and the trend continued with his acclaimed performances in "The Tree of Life" and "Moneyball" in 2011. He has been nominated for and/or won every major acting award this winter, and is also up for an Oscar. All of this change in his professional life, mirrors some personal life changes as well. He and longtime partner, Angelina Jolie, are considering marriage, and he put his stunning Malibu mansion up for sale in August.
At just over 4,000 square feet, the four-bedroom, four-bath house on the beach, is surprisingly modest compared to other nearby celebrity properties. He purchased the property in 2004 for approximately $8.4 million, but never actually spent any time there. He put it on the market in the late summer with an asking price of $13.75 million. Floor to ceiling windows, a wrap-around deck facing the water, an open-plan kitchen, a backyard lap pool, and a balcony, complete a beautiful home with a light, airy feel. A celebrity buyer snatched up the house just a few months after it went on the market – Ellen DeGeneres. As both Mr. Pitt's career and personal life shift, it will be interesting to see what kind of property he purchases next.
