$2.5 Million Dollar Bugatti Chiron Set To Replace Veyron

Luxury car maker, Bugatti, has made things easy for rappers who want to rhyme about expensive cars. The successor to the Bugatti Veyron will be called the Bugatti Chiron, named after racer Louis Chiron from Monaco.

The Veyron has been the king of supercars since debuting in 2005. It is the world's fastest street legal production car and the Veyron Super Sport holds a Guinness World Record at 267.86 miles per hour. All Veyrons have now officially been sold, ending with the La Finale, and one of these supercars is even used by the Abu Dhabi Police Department to chase down bad guys.

The new Chiron is poised to compete with the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder, and McLaren P1. Let's take a look at how the new Chiron compares to its predecessor.

Price

Veyron – $1.65 million

Chiron – $2.5 million

Speed

Veyron – Top speed of about 254 miles per hour, 0 to 60 time of 2.4 to 2.7 seconds.

Chiron – Should have a top speed of 288 miles per hour, can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds.

Engine

Veyron – 8.0 liter W-16 quad-turbocharged engine with 1200 horsepower.

Chiron – Same 8.0 liter quad-turbocharged W-16 engine, but now with direct injection and increased boost pressure. Upgraded to 1500 horsepower and now featuring a hybrid drivetrain with at least 2 of 4 turbochargers electrically powered.

Transmission

Both the Veyron and Chiron feature a seven speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

Platform

The Chiron is based on the same platform of the Veyron which includes a carbon-fiber structure that has been modified to reduce weight for the Chiron.

Availability

Veyron – Sold out.

Chiron – Sometime in 2016.

Other Improvements

The Chiron will feature improved interior ergonomics and a four-wheel drive system.

Verdict

While you can't go wrong with either of these Bugatti luxury cars, the Chiron does look like a step up from the Veyron. One question that begs to be asked is whether or not it is a million dollars better.
